I’m just sayin…) couples aren’t so prevalent. It was especially interesting considering at both JR’s and Tracks (where clientele seems to be overwhelmingly white. Apparently they want people to know that “this one belongs to me.” People in couples didn’t seem to dance a lot outside of the couples. One of the interesting things I did notice about el potrero is that there were a lot of couples, distinguished from us lowly single folk by the holding holding of hands or waists or cheeks. though they’ve always got ad space in both the gay newspapers. The restaurant/club doesn’t seem to have a big online presence. this is definitely the latest addition to the urban circuit. The drinks were expensive and there was a cover but it was well worth a good 5 hour set. The music was a mix of techno, merengue, hip hop, cumbia, and reggueton. And mostly by beautiful latino ladies and gents (mostly gents) who I’d never seen before. By 10pm, strobes and lasers were flashing around. By 11, the place was packed. At the time, I kept thinking, all they need now is people…. The music was really good starting as early as 9:30.
I went to El Potrero for the first time this past saturday and, first of all, it was a great party.
